Activismes Ésotériques est un rassemblement qui donne lieu à plusieurs manifestations dans l’espace public, IRL et URL, entre le solstice d’hiver et l’équinoxe d’automne (2020-2021). Son objectif principal est de réfléchir et d’expérimenter collectivement les relations entre l’action symbolique, la performance et l’intervention dans l’espace public ; la lutte, l’engagement social, politique et magique. Il réunit un coven de recherche : une assemblée d’artistes, de chercheurs et de militants aux postures so- cialement engagées. Le rassemblement et la manifestation se font en partenariat avec le 49° Nord 6° Est Frac Lorraine, l’INACT (Festival des Arts Mutants), l’Université de Lorraine, l’Université de Strasbourg, le Syndicat Potentiel, et le collectif CRIC.

Activismes Ésotériques is a gathering that gives place to several demonstrations in the public space, IRL and URL, between the win- ter solstice and the autumn equinox (2020- 2021). Its main purpose is to collectively reflect and experiment the relationships between symbolic action, performance and intervention in the public space; struggle, social, political and magical commitment. It brings together a research coven: an assem- bly of artists, researchers and activists with socially engaged postures. The gathering and manifestation takes in partnership with 49° Nord 6° Est Frac Lorraine, INACT (Festival des Arts Mutants), the University of Lor- raine, the University of Strasbourg, Syndicat Potentiel, and the CRIC collective.

Tarot de recherche est un tarot non-divinatoire composé d’un nombre évolutif de cartes (8 x 14,5 cm) pour autant de figures. Il s’inspire du Tarot de Marseille (XVe) com- posé d’arcanes majeurs ou mineurs, qui sont des archétypes incarnant le pouvoir symbolique attribué à chaque carte. À l’in- verse du tarot de Marseille traditionnel, le Tarot de recherche puise dans des gestes créatifs et postures engagées socialement lui préexistant. Chaque lecture de tirage engage une intervention : une recherche, un entretien, un workshop ou un geste performatif. Dans le cadre de la recherche, il est utilisé à des fins curatoriales ; dans l’usage quotidien il sert à des fins collectives de support de médiation pour des entretiens ; dans l’espace public, les arcanes sont abandonnées, insérées ou collées au format affiche. Chaque deck du Tarot de recherche est arrêté et imprimé suivant ses différentes activations dans des contextes spécifiques.

The Research Tarot is an editorial & performative device consisting in a non-divinatory tarot. It is composed of an evolving number of cards for as many figures, inspired by the Tarot de Marseille (XVth) composed of major or minor arcana, which are archetypes embodying the symbolic power attributed to each card. In contrast to the traditional Tarot de Marseille, the Resarch Tarot draws on creative gestures and socially committed postures that predate it. Each reading of a Tarot reading involves an intervention: a research, an interview, a workshop, or a performative gesture. In the context of research, it is used for curatorial purposes; in everyday use it is used for collective purposes as a mediation support for interviews; in the public space, the arcanas are abandoned, inserted or pasted in poster format. Each deck of the Tarot de recherche is be printed following its different activations in specific contexts.

Inspired by a virtual symposium that took place in 2020 and featured in the exhibition COVEN: Witchcraft for Politics (2021) at the Feminist Autonomous Centre for Research in Athens, Greece, this hand-numbered, limited edition publication collects writings from an international and interdisciplinary body of artists and researchers addressing desire—and with it, sex, love and care—from the perspective of the contemporary moment.

Engaging with queer, feminist and decolonial approaches and drawing on developments in cultural studies more broadly, the essays in this volume move not just beyond Freud’s ‘pleasure principle’ (as the psychoanalyst himself purported to do 100 years ago) but beyond Freud himself, inviting us to think of desire as a kind of evental magick, that that, in the words of Lauren Berlant, reorganises worlds: “How, we ask, do we call on this power of desire, reinvigorated today by black, feminist, and queer perspectives, to design rituals that further enable communities of difference and bring about another world?”
